lucky find

A while ago I was very lucky to go to my fave thrift store Humana on the day everything cost 20 kronor, and find this super cute dress. I’ve been wearing it so many times already, which makes it one of the most budget friendly purchases I’ve ever made. Not that I ever spend a lot of money on anything, but still. There are a precious few buys that I still haven’t created an occasion for to wear yet, which is bothering me a bit. I don’t like them hanging there feeling unused and unappreciated. I’ve got three parties coming up the next couple of weeks though, so maybe at least one of them will get to go with me.

Wearing this green cutie makes every day feel like a party though. Well, not really, at the end of the day a day at work is just a day at work, but any day deserves a nice dress, none the less.

With those incredibly wise words I bid you all a good night.

edible typography

There are so many things you can do with typography, and I just got inspired to try something as awesome as this one day. They are made by a rather brilliant artist called Anna Garforth and you can find more of her breathtaking work right here.

I need I need I need to learn paper cutting. Who will teach me? And who will make the paper cutting tattoo I will get some day in the future?

All pictures belong to Anna Garforth.

team jenny t-shirt

I don’t wear t-shirts very often, but I just bought a new one online that I will certainly wear as soon as I get it. It’s designed by super talented Carson Ellis, and the design alone made me fall in love with it: accordions are one of my top 5 favorite instruments. And obviously my name is Jenny, so it’s like Ms. Ellis designed it for me. But I’m not gonna selflishly assume that, because the truth is that The Decemberists awesome accordion player is also called Jenny, and she is fighting breast cancer at the moment, which is why this t-shirt has been made. All the profits will go towards Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and you can get the t-shirt yourself right here in The Decemberists store.

spectacular spring

I keep feeling completely overwhelmed by the loveliness of this season, just cannot get enough of it. The colours, the smells, the light late evenings, bare feet in the grass. The long, dark and horribly cold winter is nothing but a vicious dream we’ve all woken up from, finally. This tree above is a Bird Cherry, and it’s got the most amazing scent imaginable. Trust me, it’s intoxicating. I don’t wear perfume, in fact I kinda hate perfume, because perfume will never come close to the scent of Bird Cherry, for example.

Another amazing tree is this one called Lind in Swedish, Tilia Cordata. It smells lovely from the day it starts blooming, until the end of summer when it’s blooming again, with flowers that also makes for a delicious tea. Bumblebees come to feast at those flowers, and end up killing themselves, because they get too drunk from the nectar. It’s sad, but also kinda nice. I would like to believe they die happy.

I got myself a new dress to celebrate the season (well, obviously I will make up any excuse to get a new dress), and also add some colour to my wardrobe. I love it! I found it at Myrorna (Salvation Army) for 125 kronor, thank you very much.

Look how lovely the evening sun looks in our little park by the church around the corner where we live!

vintage matches

When I went to Skansens gift shop the other week, I could not resist buying some adorable match boxes for 5 kronor each. They are replicas from vintage ones, that the Tobacco and Match Museum produce. I still haven’t been to the museum, but will have to go now that I know they might have lots of things like this to see.

spring me a new dress

I’m very much in love with this dress I got this week. It’s one of those dresses that you put on and just feel so good in, and you feel it’s making you look good, almost effortlessly. I like those kinds of dresses. Yes, I like this dress lots and lots. I got it at Humana for 159 kronor. I like that too. I think it looks very 50’s, but I couldn’t say for sure. As always, just hanging on a hanger doesn’t make it justice, take my word for it.

What caught my eye in the store was the lovely flowery print, and I got so happy in the dressing room when the fit was absolutely perfect. Today it was a bit chilly again, so I wore it for the first time, and I’ve felt so good the whole day. Thank you, new black flower dress, for making me feel good.

We’ve got pink trees outside the house, just wanted to show you. They’re ridiculously pretty. If it stays windy next week, the whole street will look like it’s covered in pink snow. I love it!

Spring and new dresses are a good combination, if you ask me.

pretty jewellery pieces from v&a

I’m very much craving these beautiful jewellery pieces from Victoria & Albert Museum Shop. The one above is an Arts and Crafts Peacock brooch for £70. Stunning. It would maybe require an equally stunning Victorian black lace dress with a high collar, but I think that could be arranged, somehow.

This Jonquil Bunch brooch for £115 would go very well with anything I’ve already got in my wardrobe though.

V&A Feather Spray brooch in green for £25 can also be found in gold with ruby red stones.

Flowering Myrtle brooch by Michael Michaud for £85 is made of bronze with fresh water pearls, and comes in several different variations. The brooch is my favorite.

But the bracelet is quite adorable too (£125).

Finally a cute Peacock ring for £45. “Quirky, eclectic and colourful this ring is inspired by 1940’s and 1950’s bakelite jewellery. Each piece is handmade, with the images reproduced from the artist’s collection of vintage advertising and ephemera.” Sounds pretty good to me.

I guess I have to go back to London soon, and spend a week or so at V&A. Indeed I do.

magnificent magnolia

I think the magnolia tree is one of the most beautiful things in the world this time of year.

cute creatures i met today

Say hello to some new acquaintances I made today, at Stockholm City Museum (Stockholms Stadsmuseum). I haven’t really visited this museum properly before, and I must say I really liked it. These particular creatures are not very particular for the museum, but that’s one of the things I liked about it: things I didn’t expect.

up the walls

British company Miss Print claim to be inspired by mid-century illustration and Scandinavian design for their range of wallpapers and other interior design goods. One of the best sources for inspiration if you ask me. Although being Scandinavian, maybe I’m not supposed to pat myself on the back for being proud of good design coming from my part of the world? Nevermind! I say Miss Print are doing a very good job either way, and I wouldn’t mind having some walls with their wallpapers. This one above is from their series Pebble Leaf, in the colour Verdigris.

Cotton Tree in Sage Grey.

Little Trees in Chilli.

Leaves in Teal with White.

Dandelion Mobile in Mist Green with White. How poetic doesn’t that sound!?

Muscat in Grey.

Muscat Small in Rose with White.

Saplings in Turquoise with Gold. I think this last one is my favorite, although it might feel a bit dominating in a room. I would love it as a curtain actually, that would look great, especially against all my teak furniture. I don’t mean to repeat myself, but turquoise and teal do go really well with teak, that’s just the way it is.

royal vintage

At the Royal Armoury (Livrustkammaren) in Stockholm right now, you can see a really beautiful exhibition called Royal Vintage. It’s a selection of gorgeous vintage dresses worn by Swedish royalty from the 1930’s up until now, but most of them seemed to be from the 50’s and 60’s. I have to say I don’t care about royalty one bit, but I do care a lot about vintage dresses, no matter who’s worn them. So this was completely perfect for me, and I highly recommend seeing it if you have the opportunity. It will run until January 2012, so there’s plenty of time to catch it, and I will make sure to see it at least one more time. Here’s a selection of some of the prettiest ones, sorry about the poor picture quality.

This last one was my absolute favorite, it is just perfect in shape and style and colour and it looks like it’s my size. I wonder if they will be for sale after January ... Dibs if they are!
